Assembly Generation & Sync

Generate assemblies — harness schematics built from selected plan elements.

Prerequisites: assembly generation requires (1) a signed-in account and (2) a project saved to that account. Public examples opened from the docs (e.g. via “Open in Project Editor”) load in read-only preview mode — to generate an assembly from one, use Project menu → Save As to copy it to your account first, then come back here. Without these, Generate Assembly returns a permission error.

Generating an Assembly

  1. Select elements on the plan canvas — components, bundles, and branch points.
  2. Open the Summary panel.
  3. Click Generate Assembly.
  4. Name the assembly.

The assembly opens in Harness Builder with schematic, layout, BOM, and export.

Tip: Generate multiple assemblies from different subsets of the same plan.

What Gets Converted

Plan ElementAssembly Element
ComponentConnector
BundleBundle segment
ConductorWire
SpliceJunction part
Wire GroupWire group metadata (twist/bundle method, members)
CableCable grouping with core mappings and BOM entry
Pass-through Branch PointVisual marker (no BOM entry)

All properties carry over — pins, conductor properties, mates, and signals.

BOM Linkage

Choose how the assembly BOM relates to the plan BOM. See Parts & BOM: Pushing BOM to Assemblies for details on Linked vs Independent modes.

Syncing Changes

Push plan updates to assemblies without regenerating.

When to Sync

  • Components added or removed from the plan selection.
  • Conductor properties changed (gauge, color, signal).
  • Pin configurations updated.
  • New conductors or bundles added.

Sync Workflow

  1. Open the assembly.
  2. The sync dialog previews structural and property diffs.
  3. Review and confirm.

Conflict Resolution

When plan and assembly have diverged, the sync dialog highlights conflicts. Choose plan or assembly values per property.

From Plan to Assembly

Open the Summary panel to see all assemblies. Click an assembly name to open it.

From Assembly to Plan

Click Return to Plan in the assembly’s navigation bar.

Position and zoom state are preserved across navigation.
