Zoom & Pan
All Splice canvases — the assembly schematic, physical layout, plan layout, and plan schematic — share the same zoom and pan controls.
Scroll Behavior Modes
Open the Grid & Mouse Settings menu (gear icon in the toolbar) to choose a scroll mode:
| Mode | Scroll Wheel | Trackpad Two-Finger |
|---|---|---|
| Auto (default) | Zoom | Pan |
| Scroll | Zoom | Zoom |
| Pan | Pan | Pan |
Auto mode detects whether you’re using a mouse wheel or trackpad and adapts automatically — mouse wheel scrolls zoom, trackpad two-finger scrolls pan.
Zoom Controls
| Action | Input |
|---|---|
| Zoom in/out | Scroll wheel (Auto/Scroll mode), pinch gesture, or Ctrl/Cmd + scroll |
| Zoom at cursor | All zoom methods use focal-point zoom — the point under your cursor stays fixed |
| Zoom sensitivity | Adjust in Grid & Mouse Settings (0.5x – 2x) |
Pan Controls
| Action | Input |
|---|---|
| Pan | Trackpad two-finger scroll (Auto/Pan mode), or plain scroll (Pan mode) |
| Pan horizontally | Shift + scroll (works in all modes) |
| Pan by drag | Middle-click and drag, or hold Space and drag |
Quick Reference
- Pinch or Ctrl/Cmd + scroll always zooms, regardless of scroll mode.
- Shift + scroll always pans horizontally, regardless of scroll mode.
- The scroll mode, zoom sensitivity, grid settings, and snap preferences all persist across sessions.
Grid & Canvas Appearance
The same Grid & Mouse Settings menu also controls the canvas grid:
| Setting | What It Controls |
|---|---|
| Show Grid | Toggle the grid on/off |
| Snap to Grid | Snap component placement and dragging to the grid |
| Spacing | Distance between minor grid lines (5–50). Major lines appear every 5 minor cells. |
| Opacity | Master opacity multiplier for both minor and major grid lines |
| Background | Canvas background — seven-stop ramp from near-black to white |
| Grid Color | Grid line color. The default swatch (marked with a dot) is the auto-paired direction for the current background — pick it to return to auto-pairing, or pick any other swatch to override. |
Background and Grid Color are set independently per view — the Plan layout and the Schematic view each remember their own. The Assembly view is paper-themed and not configurable.
The Connector and Cable Creator editors expose the same Background and Grid Color pickers from their in-editor settings dropdown.
